The Stinger Stylus
(from Orbit Industries in New Jersey) is a single, injection
molded, piece of plastic that puts your stylus at the tip of your
finger.
The Stinger Stylus works with any PDA and a simple
strap fits the Stinger to any finger (on either hand).
We received 4 Stingers and promptly distributed
them to four PDA users for testing. The testers (2 women &
2 men) use Palm Top devices to enter data collected as a part of
household site surveys. [These surveys generally last about 3
hours--the testers are very engaged with the extensive questionnaire.]
All of our testers reported that the Stinger
worked very well. It was comfortable and simple to fit to
size. Having the stylus on the tip of the finger also
alleviated much of the fatigue that can occur from gripping the wand
stylus for long periods. Finally, its
small size makes it easy to store in a pocket or a purse.
At the same time, its small size also made it easy
to misplace the Stinger. Our testers agreed
that although they like the Stinger, they preferred the standard
wand stylus for the simple reason that they generally knew where to
find the wand stylus.
However, priced under US$5.00 for a set of 3, the
Stinger is so affordable that occasionally losing one would not seem
to be a problem. In fact, our testers suggested that the
stylus might be preferable for long sessions using the Palm device.
The Stinger comes in multi-color and gray and is
available directly from Orbit Industries on the Stinger
website. Although it may never replace the wand stylus, we
highly recommend the Stinger for extensive data entry and for PDA users who
regularly experience
hand fatigue gripping the wand stylus.
