Stylus+

Reviewed 22-Jul-2001 by KM Kelly.

Form and function and so many great choices!!!
Think smooth, think reliable, think elegant, add in desirable and you are just beginning to know how I feel about my Stylus+!  Would I say it's a handheld necessity?  Well, not quite.  I still occasionally use the stylus on my handheld and I have been known to use a common pen now and then.  But when I'm off to a meeting where my PDA is a necessity, I am want my Stylus+! Not is only is Stylus+ my preferred stylus, but it has become my preferred pen.

I received four of the sleek pens for testing: three Stylus+ 4-way (each enclosed in wood-grain gift box) and one Stylus+ 3-way. After two weeks of hoarding, I finally decided which one I was going to keep for myself and which ones I was willing to pass along to others for testing.

The Stylus+ is a combined ink, pencil, highlighter, stylus device. The 4-way refers to number of combinations. The Stylus+ is made of stainless steel. The device is well constructed and has a solid look and feel.  It is light and fit comfortably in the hand.

Our choices included wood grain, cross hatched metal and rubber grips.  You can find many more great looking pens (4-way to 1-way) on the Stylus+ website.  Choose the look that appeals to you and then prepare yourself for the real beauty of Stylus+.

This review focuses on the Stylus+ 4-way because, as I think you will agree, the 4-way function is the way to go. While other devices may provide 3 inserts,  Stylus+ provides up to 4 functions that can be ordered several different combinations customized from a list of options:

Combinations
Stylus ink ink ink
Stylus ink ink pencil
Stylus ink ink  highlighter
Stylus ink pencil  highlighter
Options
Ball Point Stylus Point Highlighter Pencil
Black Orange Orange 0.5 mm
Blue Yellow Pink
Red Gray
Green

Particularly noteworthy and functional are the addition of the highlighter and the ability to order the device with or without a pencil.

Operating the device is a breeze. Chose a particular point by holding the pen horizontally and rotating the pen in hand until one of the four colored indicators (located near the top of the pen) is pointed upward. Then simply depress the plunger and out comes the chosen point. The triggering method is smooth and reliable both important feature when moving from pen to stylus to highlighter to stylus to...  I could go on--you have seen the lists combinations & options!  Plus, the orange coloring on my stylus point made it very easy to identify (we recommend the standard orange tip). [I have to admit, I often 'click around' to get the right point.] Removing the shiny cap on the trigger, reveals a hidden eraser.

Refilling the Stylus+ is as simple replacing the cartridge of standard clickable pen: unscrew, remove and replace. Replacement cartridges and pencil refills as well as instructions for operating the device (they think of everything) are available on the easy to navigate Stylus+ website.

The Stylus+ 4-way is reasonably priced at $19.99 plus s/h from the Stylus+ website. In addition, Stylus+ provides other great choices at prices ranging from $4.99 to $19.99.
